New-York Stock Exchange

Suite à la signature de l’accord de Buttonwood par 24 agents de change le 17 mai 1792, la bourse de Wall Street apparaît. Buttonwood signifie platane, c’est au pied d’un de ces arbres qu’a été signé cet accord.C’est le 8 mars 1817 qu’est construit le bâtiment du New York Stock Exchange, qui est la principale plateforme d’échanges de la bourse de New York.

Federal Hall

Ce bâtiment a été construit à l’origine en 1700 pour accueillir la mairie de New York. Il sera ensuite utilisé comme premier Capitole des Etats-Unis. Ce sera à cette endroit que le premier président américain, George Washington, prêtera son serment d’investiture en 1789. Il sera détruit puis reconstruit en 1812 pour devenir les douanes de New York. Le Federal Hall est aujourd’hui un musée sur l’histoire du bâtiment.

Charging Bull

Le Charging Bull est une sculpture située à proximité de Wall Street, la bourse de New York. L’artiste Arturo Di Modica  a fabriqué ce “taureau” de 3 tonnes et demi suite au krach boursier du 19 octobre 1987. Selon lui, ce taureau est un symbole de courage et d’espoir des Américains. Le 15 décembre 1989, après deux ans de travail, Arturo Di Modica installe illégalement sa statue au pied d’un grand sapin installé pour Noël, situé en face du New York Stock Exchange, principale plateforme d’échanges de New York.  Si la statue est retirée le soir même, sa présence aura fait beaucoup parler dans la presse. La mairie de New York décide, suite à cet engouement, de réinstaller la statue au Bowling Park, à proximité de Wall Street. 
Mais le 7 mars 2017, veille de la journée internationale des femmes, une nouvelle statue a été installée en face, la “Fearless Girl” (“fille sans peur” en français). Ce projet a été incité par le groupe financier State Street Global Advisors, qui a demandé à Kristen Visbal de créer une statue pour inciter les entreprises dans lesquels il investit à augmenter la part de femmes employées et pour l’égalité salariale. Mais la statue ne plaît pas à Arturo Di Modica, qui estime que la statue ne respecte pas le droit d’auteur et qu’elle change le propos de base du Taureau en le faisant devenir menaçant. Pourtant le maire de New York, Bill de Blasio, a permis à la statue de rester en place jusqu’à la prochaine journée des femmes.

New-York Stock Exchange 

After the ratification of the agreement of Buttoonwood from 24 agents from the May 17th, 1792, Wall Street was created. It’s called Buttonwood because it’s at the ground of these trees where the agreement was ratified. It’s the March 8th 1817 than the New York Stock Exchange were inaugurated. It’s the principal exchange’s platform of the New York Stock Exchange.

Federal Hall

 This building was built in 1700 to host the city hall of New York.  After that, it was used as the first Capitol of the United States. At this place, the first american president, George Washington,  swore for his investiture in 1789. It have been destroyed and rebuilt in 1812 to became principal customs of New York. The Federal Hall is today a museum about the history of this building.

 

Charging Bull 

The Charging Bull is a sculpture situated at the Bowling Park, near from the New York Stock Exchange. The artist Arturo Di Modica built this “Bull” of three and a half tons after October 19, 1987 stock-market crash. For him, this artwork is a symbol of bravery and hope from American people.On December the 15th of 1989, after two years of work, Arturo Di Modica put his statue in front of the New York Stock Exchange, under a Christmas Tree, like a gift for Americans. If this artwork was removed during the evening, his presence created some noise on the press. The city hall of New York decided, after that, to reinstall the statue at the Bowling Park, near of Wall Street
But, in March 7 of 2017, the day before the International Women’s day, a new statue was installed in front of the bull, the “Fearless Girl”. This project is the idea of the financial group State Street Global Advisors, who asked Kristen Visbal for creating a statue who wants to encourage companies where the group invests to increase the part of womens inside them and for the equal pay. But Arturo Di Modica don’t likes the presence of the statue. He considers that the statue don’t respect the copyright and it change the meaning of the Bull, who becomes threatened. Instead, Bill de Blasio, mayor of New York, gives the right to the statue to stay where it is until the next International Women’s Day.
